LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- All eight SCAC men's golf teams were in action this week, including seven who participated at the inaugural SCAC Preview, which was contested at Vaalar Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas.
Southwestern fought back from a six shot deficit after day one to fire the low round of the Preview, a 287 on Tuesday, to take first place. The PIrates finished with a two-day total of 582 (+6), nine shots clear of second-place McMurry.
The Pirates were led by three golfers in the top five, including senior Cade Osgood who finished second overall with a two-day total of 142 (-2). His 70 on Tuesday was the low round of the day and moved him from a tie for sixth to second. Austin Kelley (145) and Colin O'Hern (146) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Among SCAC teams, Trinity finished in a tie for third (w/ Mary Hardin-Baylor) with a two-day total of 595 (+19). Freshman Daniel Nunez took individual medalist honors at the SCAC Preview, finishing with a two-day total of 141 (-3) after rounds of 68 and 73. His 68 ws the low round of the tournament.
Behind an even par two-day total of 144 (72-72) from Chase Maus, Texas Lutheran finished in fifth place at 598 (+22).
Rounding out the SCAC schools in the field, Schreiner was sixth (611), Dallas was seventh (612), St. Thomas was eighth (614) and Johnson & Wales finished ninth (635).
Centenary College was also in action this week, finishing third in the nine-team field at the LeTourneau Pinecrest Intercollegiate. Reed Balcerowicz took medalist honors at the event with a three-round total of 213 (E). His final round 68 was the low round of the tournament.
