2012 SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships - Final Day Recap

ROCKWALL, Texas - Trinity University swept both the men's and women's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) swimming & diving championships in dominating fashion at the Rockwall ISD Natatorium. Results | Team Scores | Official Site

The Trinity men easily outdistanced themselves from second place Colorado College by a 286 point margin (984 to 698). Sewanee: University of the South finished in third with 638 points followed by Centre College (583), Rhodes College (290), Southwestern University (223), Austin College (170) and Hendrix College (145).

Trinity's women scored 999 points to run away from second place Centre by 309 points. Colorado College finished in third with 528 points followed by Sewanee (433), Rhodes (417), Southwestern (399), Hendrix (220) and Austin College (122).

Individually, three of the four awards were repeat winners from a year ago as Colorado College's Jordan DeGayner was the Men's Swimmer of the Meet.

Centre's Clark Weber was again the Women's Swimmer of the Meet. Trinity's Ruth Hahn earned her second straight Women's Diver of the Meet honros.

The only non-repeat winner was Colorado College first-year diver Austin Howlett who garnered Men's Diver of the Year laurels.

DeGayner set two SCAC championship meet records and tallied NCAA "A" cuts in both the 100 and 200 free and helped anchor the Tigers' championship 400 free relay team.

Weber earned three NCAA "B" cuts in winning the 200 free, 500 free and 1650 free.

Howlett won the 3-meter board while also nearly upsetting two-time defending SCAC champion Kevin Martin in the 1-meter board. Howlett lost by just over 15 points.

Hahn won her first career SCAC championship on the 3-meter board and finished in second in the 1-meter.

Colorado College, led by head coach Anne Goodman James, was named the men's Coaching Staff of the Year after the Tigers earned their highest finish ever at the SCAC championship. The Tigers placed second while improving on last year's program best third place finish.

Centre College, led by head coach Dean Browley, earned women's Coaching Staff of the Year honors after the the Colonels tied their highest SCAC championship finish by placing second.
