BLUMBERG OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman
defender from Sydney, Australia, has been selected the SCAC Men's
Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played
from Monday, October 13th through Sunday, October 19th.
Blumberg led Trinity's third-ranked men's soccer team to a pair of conference road wins over the weekend, clinching the top seed at next month's SCAC Tournament in Seguin, Texas.
Blumberg and the Tigers opened the weekend with a 3-0 shutout at Schreiner University on Friday, yielding just one total shot in the game. On Sunday, the team gave up just one shot on goal against Texas Lutheran, scoring a 2-1 win that clinched the #1 seed. Trinity pitched a shutout in the second half, allowing just three shots to seal the win.
For the season, Blumberg and the Trinity defense have allowed just 12 goals in 16 games played, tallying eight total shutouts. He has also scored one goal in his first season with the team, starting 15 of the 16 games on the year.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defender Matt Rowlands of Austin College had a strong weekend to help the 'Roos go 1-0-1 with their first win of the year as well as a draw with No. 14 Colorado College. Rowlands directed the Austin College defense and even assisted on the game-tying goal against the Tigers on Friday. Junior defender Lalo Ramirez of Texas Lutheran scored his first two goals of the season over the weekend, notching one against Southwestern and one against Trinity. Centenary, Colorado College, Dallas, Schreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
