JON BEAVER OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a senior goalkeeper from Knoxville, Tenn., has been selected as the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 26 through Sunday, October 2.
Beaver, who battled a rib injury all week in practice, came in cold as the substitute goalkeeper when starter Frank Petersen received a red card and immediately stopped a penalty kick. Less than five minutes later Beaver was called upon again facing his second penalty kick and again came up huge with the save in a 3-1 conference opener win against Austin College. Beaver played the final 25 minutes off the bench recording three saves and stopping two penalty kicks.
Beaver got the start on Sunday against
University of Dallas as he organized and commanded the defense to
the shutout. It was just the fourth shutout Oglethorpe has posted
in a conference match since the 2007 season.
