  • SCAC announces Spring 2009 Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll

    SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) named a record 1,029 student-athletes to the 2009 SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday. This year's total eclipsed last year's previous record of 948 student-athletes.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Friday the 2009 State Farm Coaches’ Division III All-America teams. Senior guard Mike Moore of DePauw University was named Second Team All-America, the only SCAC player to be honored.

Centre College's Danny Noll and Trinity University's Luke Caldarera were Second Team selections.

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Sixteenth ranked Centre College, winner of the SCAC's NCAA automatic qualifier, and thirteenth ranked Trinity University were selected to represent the SCAC in the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

    CONWAY, Ark. - Centre senior guard Kris Bentley tied an SCAC Tournament single-game record with eight three pointers and added 31 points as the Colonels won its second SCAC Tournament championship with a 72-67 win over the Southwestern University Pirates.

    SUWANEE, Ga. - With one weekend left in the regular season, teams are fighting for SCAC tournament berths. The Millsaps Majors earned a much needed weekend sweep of eleventh-ranked Trinity University and Southwestern University and currently sit in fourth-place in the Western Division. Meanwhile, Sewanee secured the fourth and final Eastern Division tournament berth by sweeping Birmingham-Southern and Rhodes Feb. 13 and Feb. 15.

    SEWANEE, Tenn. – After trailing 23-16 at the half, Sewanee rallied on Birmingham-Southern, getting the 57-52 comeback men’s basketball win Friday night in Juhan Gym. Friday’s win marked the 100th career win as a college head coach for Sewanee’s Bubba Smith.

    SUWANEE, Ga. - With only two weeks left in the regular season, the final berths in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournament should go down to the wire. Hendrix College, the most recent team to earn a conference tournament berth, did so by sweeping a pair of SCAC games at Colorado College and at Austin College. That brings the total number of conference tournament teams to five of eight.

    SUWANEE, Ga. - A pair of SCAC basketball coaches notched their 350th career wins over the weekend. Kris Huffman of DePauw won her 350th on Friday against Birmingham-Southern and Pat Cunningham won his 350th on Saturday against Southwestern.

    SUWANEE, Ga. - In the final SCAC cross divisional of the season, the DePauw Tigers were able to do what no other conference team could upto this point. The Tigers ended Trinity's 15 game winning streak with a 61-54 home win. Elsewhere in league action, four of the eight spots in the upcoming SCAC Basketball tournament were wrapped up the weekend of January 30-February 1.
