Cole Thompson, Centenary College, Baseball

COLE THOMPSON OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior pitcher on the Gents' baseball team from Plano, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending May 5, 2013.

Thompson, who graduated with a 3.55 GPA and plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin in the Fall to work toward a Masters Degree in Accounting, was a Dean's List honoree at Centenary four times - including this spring.

A three-year captain, Thompson was a First-Team All-SCAC selection this season and helped lead the Gents to a 15-5 conference mark in the SCAC and the top seed in the conference post-season tournament where Centenary finished as runner-up - the school's best finish in any sport in its first season in the SCAC.

Away from campus, Thompson has done numerous hours of volunteer and charity work in the community - particularly service that involves working with or for children.  

He volunteered for the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day telethon and also visited children at the Shriner's Hospital. He served as the Public Relations chairman for "Up Til Dawn," a Centenary service project that raised funds for St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

Thompson has also tutored students at Meadowview Elementary in nearby Bossier City and has served as a volunteer coach in a fall baseball league for area kids for the last four years. Through his work with the Angel Tree Organization, the Centenary baseball team was able to adopt a child and buy them Christmas presents this past December.

He has also worked with Special Olympics - helping to organize a flag football game for participants on campus as well as organizing a Special Olympics awareness night at a Centenary baseball game this past April.
