DANIEL WRIGHT OF COLORADO COLLEGE has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending October 21, 2012.

If you were making a film about getting the most out of a college experience, Wright would be a perfect candidate to be the leading man.

Then again, you might want the Steamboat Springs, Colo., native to produce and direct the piece as well.

Wright, a senior forward on the Colorado College men’s soccer team, has obviously produced in the classroom, where he owns a 3.68 grade-point average as an anthropology major with minors in both French and film.

His academic endeavors have resulted in a spot on the 2011 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District team, as well as three appearances on the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honor Roll.

Wright also has been a fixture on campus, serving as a New Student Orientation leader each of the last two years. He led groups of 20 or more first-year students to Crestone, Colo., where they performed trail and campsite maintenance, fire prevention exercises and arroyo repairs.

Wright is a member of CC's Film Union and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as treasurer during the 2011-12 academic year.

He also helped organized the Third Annual Quony Cup, an all-campus soccer tournament commemorating former men’s soccer and lacrosse player Chris Quon, who died unexpectedly in 2009. The 2012 tournament raised funds for the American Cancer Society, the Christopher Quon Foundation and the Evan Spirito Memorial Foundation.

For the last five years, Wright has mentored a young Hispanic boy, helping him with English, soccer and school work, as well as adjusting to life in a different country. He also coaches aspiring players at the Colorado College Soccer Camp and the Steamboat Soccer Academy, and is a referee with the Steamboat Springs Youth Soccer Association.

During his three-plus years on campus, Wright probably is best known, at least for the moment, for his accomplishments on the pitch.

Frenchy, as he is know by his teammates, has become one of the team’s most productive offensive players during the last two seasons. After appearing in just six games as a freshman, he has played in 54 consecutive matches and produced 15 career goals and 11 assists.

Wright has been featured in many highlights during the last two seasons. The team co-captain has struck for seven game winners during his career, including ‘Golden Goals’ in 3-2 overtime victories at Nebraska Wesleyan University last year and against the University of Texas at Dallas in the 2012 season opener at Stewart Field.

With five career game-winning assists, Wright also has proven himself worthy of a nomination as "best supporting actor."

After graduating in May, Wright plans to apply for the Teach for America Program. He also is considering attending film school with the hope of producing and directing feature films.
