Trinity Women First, Colorado College Fifth, Southwestern 16th at NCAA Cross Country Regionals

HAMPTON, Ga. - Led by junior Vanessa Moreno's second place finish, Trinity University won the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country South/Southeast Regional at the Nash Battlefield Farm this morning. Moreno, who won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship, was one of seven Trinity runners who earned All-Regional honors. Joining Moreno on the All-Regional team were teammates Maddie Murphy (third), Rosemary Steup (sixth), Jackie Newell (13th), Jessica Pagano (17th), Nicola Hill (26th) and Jessie Dean (29th).

With the regional team championship, the Tigers earned an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. next Saturday. Trinity easily outdistanced itself from runner up Emory by a score of 39 to 132.

It marks the fourth time in the last five years that an SCAC team won the South/Southeast regional. It is also the Tigers' first regional championship since 2008 and third overall (2004, 2008, 2012).

Southwestern University finished in a tie for 16th with Mississippi College. The Pirates were led by All-Regional performer Lilly Duarte. Duarte finished in 14th place with a time of 23:25.19. Also leading Southwestern was Kara Koinis who finished in 61st place with a time of 24:47.61.

Austin College, Centenary College and the University of Dallas did not compete in the regional competition.

SALEM Ore. - Behind sophomore Erin Morrow's 14th place finish (21:41.48), Colorado College finished in fifth place at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country West Regional, hosted by Willamette University. West Regional Complete Results

Morrow earned All-Regional status by finishing in the top-35 finishers. Teammates Jamie Peng (22:24.79 - 26th) and Nikki Steinsiek (25:38.67 - 29th) also earned All-Region laurels. Krista Brown finished in the top 50 with a 44th place showing by running the 6K course in 22:45.00.

Colorado College was the only SCAC school that competed in the West Regional.
