ALYSSA MENCACCI OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a freshman midfielder from League City, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 6th.
Mencacci led Dallas to a pair of SCAC road victories last week to open league play and get the Crusaders off to a perfect 2-0 in conference action for the first time since 2013. She tallied the lone goal against Southwestern on Friday night to lift the Crusaders to a 1-0 victory and then followed up that performance with an assist on the insurance goal of a 2-0 win over TLU on Sunday. In all, she finished the week with three points on one goal and one assist. Her efforts led the Crusaders to posting wins over both Southwestern and Texas Lutheran in the same season for the first time since 2014.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defender Samiah Varnell of Southwestern led the Pirates with a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win over Austin College last Sunday. Senior forward Narcedalia Yanez of St. Thomas scored her first goal of the season to help lead the Celts to a 2-1 victory over Johnson & Wales last Sunday. Sophomore midfielder Madison Horner of Trinity scored the first and last goals of the night to lead the Tigers to a 4-0 victory over Schreiner last Friday.
