Alyssa Mencacci, University of Dallas, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 4)

ALYSSA MENCACCI OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, freshman midfielder from League City, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 22nd. 

Mencacci led Dallas to a pair of victories last week, factoring in on all three goals, as the Crusaders are currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak. In an overtime thriller against Schreiner on Friday, Mencacci scored the golden goal 21 seconds into OT to lift the Crusaders above the Mountaineers, 1-0, for the team’s first home triumph of 2019. 

On Sunday, Mencacci scored the opening goal and assisted on the game-winner in a 2-1 victory against non-conference opponent Concordia (Tex.). Mencacci has now scored in four-straight fixtures, coinciding with the Crusaders current unbeaten streak. The Freshman is the team leader for goals (4), points (9), and shots on goal (9). Dallas is above .500 (3-2-1) for the first time since 2014 and Mencacci was the first UD player to score in three games in a row since Alice Nelson back in the 2014 campaign. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder Hallie Rutherford of Southwestern factored into both goals during the Pirates’ 2-1 designated non-conference victory against Johnson & Wales last Friday, scoring and adding an assist to lead SU to a remarkable 7-0 start on the season. Sophomore forward Madison Alexander of Texas Lutheran scored twice and added an assist for five total points to help life the Bulldogs to a 4-0 win over Johnson & Wales last Sunday. Freshman forward Molly Sheridan of Trinity provided a goal and two assists in the Tigers’ 6-0 win over TLU last Friday. The goal and assists were the first in the career for Sheridan.
