LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Colorado College picked its first two wins of the season after sweeping visiting Austin College over the weekend. The Tigers were led by sophomore guard Courtney Tyus who averaged 14 points, four assists and three steals in the two wins.
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College (3-6, 0-4 SCAC) went 0-2 on the week, dropping two games against SCAC rival Colorado College on the road. On Friday, the Kangaroos dropped a 67-58 decision to the Tigers. Erin Riley’s 18 points paced the ‘Roo offensive attack while Brooke Melton grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. On Saturday, Austin College again was in the game but fell 53-45 to Colorado College. Shayna Clardy scored a team-high 15 points in the losing effort. The ‘Roos return to action on Dec. 15 and 16 when they travel to Hendrix and Rhodes, respectively.
Centenary (1-7) went 1-1 this week, as they
earned their first victory of the season Monday night against
LeTourneau University 74-66. Senior Vashni Sharp-Moore, who is
averaging 18.1 points per game currently, had a season high 26
points and was one of three Ladies in double figures. Sophomore
Dionecia Warr, averaging 15.3 points per game, had another good
night with 18, and freshmen Emmeline Richard scored a career and
season high 15 points in the win. Centenary was unable to continue
its winning streak as they fell Friday to crosstown rival
LSU-Shreveport 86-54. The no. 17 ranked (NAIA) Lady Pilots (8-1)
shot 51 percent in the first half and widened the margin the last
ten minutes of the half to put the game out of reach. Sharp-Moore
had another game high with 18 points and Warr added 13. The Ladies
will be on the road next Saturday as they play University of Dallas
at 1 p.m.
Colorado College opened conference play in Reid Arena over
the weekend to earn its first wins of the season. The Tigers beat
Austin College twice, 67-58 of Friday and 53-45 on Saturday. In
CC’s first win of the season, the Tigers shot season-highs in
all three categories with a 46.9 percent from the floor, a 63.6
percent from long range and a 93.3 percent from the free-throw
line. Sophomore Courtney Tyus led the team averaging 34.5 minutes,
14.0 points, four assists and three steal a game over the weekend.
Seniors Kalli Kemling and Sarah Gunkel led the team on defense
averaging 7.0 and 6.5 rebounds a game, respectively. Colorado
College (2-7, 2-0 SCAC) travels to Denver for a midweek match
against Johnson and Wales University on Wednesday at 7
p.m.
Dallas (5-1) is idle until Saturday, Dec. 15, when they
open SCAC-play at home versus Centenary College of Louisiana.
Southwestern had the week off from action after
a frenzied start to the season. They sit at 5-2 on the season and
2-0 in the SCAC. The Pirates return to action on Saturday, December
15th facing Concordia University at home at 3 p.m.
Trinity (4-1, 2-0 SCAC) had the week off.
The Tigers will return to action on Dec. 15 when they travel to La
Verne. , Trinity will follow that with back-to-back games at
Redlands and Chapman on December 18 and 19.
