TOM CARWILE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 25th.
Carwile led Trinity to a pair of SCAC road wins over the weekend, defeating both Texas Lutheran and Southwestern to clinch a first-round bye at the SCAC Tournament. Carwile and the Tiger defense allowed just one goal in the two games, holding down a pair of teams that has combined for 40 goals this season.
Additionally, Carwile scored the game-winning goal in both games for the Tigers. Against Southwestern, he converted a first-half penalty kick to break up a scoreless game, as well as holding the Pirates to just six shots in the shutout. Against Texas Lutheran, Carwile gave Trinity a 2-0 lead with his header in the seventh minute, which proved to be the difference in the game.
For the season, Carwile leads the Tigers with seven goals scored, and six of those have been game-winning goals. He has converted 3-4 PK's, and has also contributed one assist for a team-leading 15 points scored.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Benner of Southwestern University posted nine saves while allowing two goals against Trinity on Sunday. Sophomore goalkeeper Theo Hooker of Colorado College stopped the only three shots he faced while posting his third consecutive shutout.
