LUCIANO VILLANUEVA OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior pitcher from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Monday, March 21st through Sunday, March 27th.
Making just his third career start, Villanueva pitched his first complete game and held Austin College to one unearned run in a 4-1 victory versus Austin College last week. The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and walked two, but kept a shutout intact until the final chance at the plate for the 'Roos. Villanueva also struck out three, as the triumph was his first this spring and secured at least a series win for the Crusaders at the time.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior pitcher Matt Litz of Southwestern logged 5.2 innings, allowing only one run on four hits with 10 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Nathan Malinovsky of Texas Lutheran tossed a complete-game as the Bulldogs' won 4-3 in extra innings (8 inn.) against the University of Texas at Dallas. Senior pitcher Teddy Turner of Trinity threw for six innings in the series finale on Saturday afternoon, allowing just two earned runs on three hits, and striking out four batters.
