Tony Gennusa, Texas Lutheran University, Baseball - Offensive Player of the Week (Week 5)

TONY GENNUSA OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior outfielder from Kingwood, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, March 8th.

For the second week in a row, Gennusa led Texas Lutheran to a 3-1 weekend including winning two out of three over conference-foe Southwestern University in a three game, non-conference, series. 

Gennusa finished 7-for-16 (.438) on the weekend with five doubles, two triples, and seven runs drive in. He also had a slugging percentage of 1.000 while forcing two walks and scoring three runs. 

Gennusa opened the week up with a 4-for-5 performance, including three doubles, a triple, and three RBIs, in a 11-4 win over DeSales. He followed that up with a 2-for-5 performance, including two doubles and three RBIs, in a wild 12-7 (12) win over Southwestern.

For the season, Gennusa leads the SCAC in numerous categories including hits (31), runs (23), doubles (8), triples (4), total bases (47), and at bats (73). He is fourth in the SCAC in RBIs (16) and slugging percentage (.644) and fifth in the SCAC in batting average (.425) and stolen bases (5). 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Christian Sebastian of Centenary led the team with a .667 batting average while driving in a team-best three RBI on the weekend, going 4-for-6 with a triple and three runs scored. Senior designated hitter Luciano Villanueva of Dallas hit .364 on the weekend series at East Texas Baptist University, notching a pair of two-hit performances. Serving as the designated hitter, Villanueva combined for five RBI, which accounted for nearly half of the team's run total in a sweep. He added a double and scored twice while slugging .727 in the series. Freshman infielder Robert Wehman of Southwestern posted a .333 batting average with four hits in 12 at bats while driving in four RBIs. Junior catcher George Haaland of Trinity played in three of the four games, starting two, and going 3-8 (.375) at the plate with two runs and one RBI. The week saw Haaland pick up his first hits of the season, after starting the year 0-5 at the plate. In Sunday's series finale at Schreiner, Haaland was 1-2 with a double and a run scored. Austin College and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
