DREW
BUTLER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior
catcher from Phoenix, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Baseball
Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday,
February 8th.
Butler led No. 16 Trinity to a 3-0 start to the
2015 season, defeating Texas-Tyler, George Fox, and Whittier during
a busy opening weekend.
Butler drove in nine runs over the three games, going 5-10 (.500) at the plate with a double and a home run. He also drew a pair of walks and scored two runs, posting a team-best .583 on-base percentage for the weekend. Against Texas-Tyler, Butler hit an eighth-inning grand slam that proved to be the game-winner in a 9-7 win in the season opener. He also picked up four RBI in an 11-1 win over Whittier in the weekend finale.
Last season, Butler hit .358 (38-106) with 17 runs and 27 RBI for the Tigers. He held a .594 slugging percentage with eight doubles and five home runs, as well as posting a .415 on-base percentage for the week.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore
infielder Michael Schimpf of Centenary posted a .417
clip at the dish, second on the team throughout the weekend. He
drove in four RBIs as the Gents started the season 1-2. Freshman outfielder Jayme
Kidder of Schreiner went 5-for-11 on the weekend with a
double, a triple and four RBIs to help the Mountaineers record a
2-1 series win over Sul Ross State. Kidder also pitched 6.0 innings
in the second game to record his first college victory on the
mound. Senior outfielder
Tony Gennusa of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with
eight hits and seven runs scored, setting the table at the top of
the lineup all weekend as TLu went 3-0. He continued to get better
as the weekend went along, capping off the three games with a
4-for-5 night in an 8-6 win over Texas-Tyler. Gennusa was also
4-for-4 in stolen bases. Dallas did not nominate
anyone. Austin
College and Southwestern did not
play.
