SCAC Women's Basketball Recap - Week 6

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- After a quiet week the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball schedule picked back up in week six with eight teams taking the court.

Texas Lutheran (6-5, 2-0) earned a pair of conference wins over Johnson & Wales (0-8, 0-3) and Colorado College. Against the Wildcats, the Bulldogs shared the ball well involving 14 different scorers. During the two-game stretch, TLU was led by sophomore forward Abby Hroch who averaged 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds. 

Despite its loss, Colorado College (5-6, 2-1) managed to improve to 2-1 in conference play with an 80-62 victory over Southwestern. All five Tiger starters along with freshman guard Izzy Strigel, who came off the bench, tallied double-digit point totals against the Pirates. McKenzee Gertz recorded another impressive week for the Tigers after posting her third double-double of the season against Texas Lutheran. The sophomore guard averaged 19.0 points per game – which led the league last week - and added 9.0 rebounds per game. 

Southwestern (2-9, 1-1) also snagged an 88-45 conference victory over Johnson & Wales. Sophomore forward Noel Pratts led the charge with a 23-point performance for the Pirates the win. Against the Colorado College, junior center Cecily Woolfolk added her fourth double-double of the season.

In non-conference action, Austin College (7-1, 0-0) extended its win streak to three with victories over Hardin-Simmons and Hendrix. Junior guard Ann Savage led the Roos' with 15.5 points and 5.0 assists per game. Savage also led the league in three-point shooting over the week, making eight of her ten from behind the arc. 

Centenary (2-6, 0-0) defeated LeTourneau 65-62 for its second win of the season. Several Ladies contributed double-digit points in the contest including sophomore forward Bre Frierson who came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points while shooting 66.7 percent from the field. 

Trinity (5-2, 0-0) split its weekend series, winning against Augsburg but falling to third-ranked St. Thomas (Minn.). In Saturday’s win, the Tigers were paced by junior forward Abby Holland who collected 12 points and eight rebounds.

SCAC conference play continues on Tuesday when Centenary, Austin College and Texas Lutheran host Dallas, Trinity and Schreiner, respectively.
