Sajel Tremblay, DePauw University, Women's Volleyball

SAJEL TREMBLAY OF DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, a junior outside hitter on the women's volleyball team who hails from Waterford, Mich., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending December 5, 2010.

A biochemistry and French double major with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average, Tremblay, out of the classroom and off the court, has been extremely busy as she installed and is the president of DePauw's chapter of the Timmy Foundation which is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that works to expand access to healthcare and education by partnering with like-minded organizations, while empowering student and medical volunteers to engage directly in global development. 

Tremblay is also involved with Special Olympics and a youth reading program as well as the University's highly-successful Relay for Life efforts. She also has volunteered at Johnson Nichols Health Clinic for women and children and had a more personal volunteer opportunity in which she built a relationship with a woman with health issues and her two-year old with autism. 

Tremblay has also worked with a family as they redo the roof on their church. "I like volunteer experiences that allow me to build a relationship with the person/people I'm serving," she says. "I think it's important to help the local community but I'm also interested in the international health issues which is why I'm involved with Timmy."
