ELIZA NEWLAND OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a junior defender on the women's soccer team who hails from Hamilton, Ga., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending October 31, 2010.

In addition to being a three-time Academic Honor Roll member, Newland is the president of Oglethorpe’s Petrel Council, the student-athlete advisory committee on campus.

As the president, Newland has successfully petitioned the Oglethorpe faculty to allow student-athletes to pre-register for classes to reduce conflicts between practice and game schedules and allowing for the student-athlete to miss fewer classes.
