Southwestern Takes Round One Lead at SCAC Women's Golf Championship

-- Defending champion Southwestern University jumped out to an early five-stroke lead with a team score of 318 (+30) after the Day One of the 2014 SCAC Women's Golf Championship being contested at The Resort at Tapatio Springs. Official Championship Website | Results | Photo Gallery Day One Video Recap

The 24th-ranked Pirates have four golfers in the top 10 led by senior Ali Walden who sits in the second place after a first-round 76 (+4). Teammate and junior Lauren Boone is tied for third - three shots behind her teammate after a first-round 79 (+7). Southwestern's first-round 318 is the fourth-lowest opening round score in SCAC Women's Golf Tournament history.

15th-ranked Trinity University is in second place with a team score of 323 (+35) behind the strong play of freshman Christine Campbell and sophomore Brigette Lee who both fired opening-round scores of 79 (+7) and are tied with Southwestern's Boone for third place.

Led by freshman Gabby Davis' first-round 80 (+8), Schreiner University is in third place with a team score of 333 (+45) and Centenary College is in fourth with a score of 337 (+49). The Ladies' Jamie Wright (pictured above) leads all individuals after her opening day round of 75 - the sophomore's best round of the season. Texas Lutheran University rounds out the women's field with a first-round score of 390 (+102).
