KRISTINA HUGHES OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker from Placerville, CA, has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 29th through Sunday, October 4th.

Hughes led the Tiger volleyball team to the Trinity Fall Classic Tournament title with a 4-0 record over the weekend, earning Tournament Most Valuable Player honors for the event. Hughes totaled 42 kills in 14 sets over the weekend, averaging 3.00 per set. Even more impressive was her overall hitting percentage, as the sophomore only committed eight errors in 87 attacks for a mark of .391 for the weekend.

Hughes also added nine digs and nine blocks in the four matches. Friday opened with Hughes knocking down 10 kills without an error for a .625 hitting percentage, followed by a weekend-best 12 kills and five blocks in a 3-2 win over Nebraska Wesleyan. She finished the tournament in even more impressive fashion on day two, hitting above .400 in both matches, putting up 20 kills and only three errors. Hughes hit .563 in the weekend finale against NAIA Our Lady of the Lake, which had previously lost just once this season. 

She also hit .421 in the win over Hardin-Simmons. For the season, Hughes is sporting a team-best .274 hitting percentage, and is second among all Tiger players with 157 kills (2.12/set). Additionally, Hughes is second on the team with 52 blocks (0.70/set), and has recorded eight service aces.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outside hitter Abbe Holtze of Colorado College was named the MVP of the Pikes Peak Challenge as her team went 3-0 over the weekend. Junior outside hitter Brette Threadgill of Texas Lutheran University delivered 20 kills in a four-set win over Nebraska Wesleyan that gave TLU a winning record (2-1) at the Trinity Fall Classic. Junior middle blocker Presleigh Watson of Austin College had a .345 hitting percentage for the weekend, tallying 29 kills against just nine attacking errors.
