Courtney Birkett, Colorado College, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 2)

COURTNEY BIRKETT OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior outside hitter from Newbury Park, Calif., has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for the second consecutive week. Her most recent honor is for matches played from Tuesday, September 8th through Saturday, September 12th.

Birkett was named the tournament MVP for the second weekend in a row as she helped lead Colorado College to a 4-0 record and win the Colorado College Invitational. She led the team with 85 assists, 44 digs and 12 blocks over the weekend. She also added 33 digs as she helped the Tigers improve to 9-0 so far this season.

In the first match of the week, Birkett led the team with 17 assists and added eight digs and seven kills in a sweep of Chapman University. The right side hitter led the team to a victory over No. 17 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with 29 assists. She also earned 15 kills and eight digs, along with three blocks to help earn the 3-1 victory.

In the final day of action, Birkett earned her second triple-double of the season with 20 assists, 12 kills and 10 digs in a sweep of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She finished the tournament with a career-high five blocks and added 19 assists, 10 kills and seven digs in a win over Bluffton University. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior middle blocker Olivia Drummond of Southwestern University led the Pirates in kills with 29 and had just six errors on 57 attempts for an impressive .404 attack percentage this week. She added in seven assists and one ace with 11 digs and a team high 11 blocks, averaging just under one per match. She was an All-Tournament selection at Austin College. Freshman middle hitter Delanie Cauthen of Schreiner University assisted big with 13 kills, 5 aces, and 14 digs in Schreiner's first victory of the year vs. Sul Ross State. Freshman setter Katie Ingle of Austin College had an outstanding all-around weekend at the Austin College Invitational, averaging 1.58 kills with a .395 hitting percentage, a team-best 5.25 assists-per-set, as well as 2.58 digs-per-set. Junior outside hitter Kristin Fording of Texas Lutheran University hit .347 in two matches, both TLU victories, and recorded 34 total kills, 10 digs and four blocks as the Bulldogs improved to 6-0 in 2015. Junior outside hitter Lexi Noriega of the University of Dallas combined for 41 kills and 44 digs over a four-match tournament at the Austin College Invitational last week. Junior setter Erika Edrington of Trinity University finished with 131 assists over the weekend, averaging 10.92/set in the four matches. She also picked up a team-best five service aces, and added 37 total digs (3.08/set) for the Tigers.
