Rebecca Hayes, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week Nine)

REBECCA HAYES OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defenseive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, October 27th through Sunday, November 1st.

Hayes led the Tiger volleyball team to a 3-1 record and second-place finish at the Trinity National Invitational over the weekend, highlighted by a 3-0 win over #18 La Verne on Saturday evening. Trinity's lone defeat came at the hands of 19th-ranked UT-Dallas on Friday night.

Hayes paced Trinity's stellar defense with 20 total blocks over the four matches, averaging 1.33 blocks/set. Hayes had six blocks in each match on the opening day, including the match against UTD. She scored four blocks in each match on Saturday, which were a pair of 3-0 wins for the Tigers. In addition to her work on defense, Hayes also added 27 total kills (1.80/set) and hit .400 for the weekend (27-3-60).

Junior libero Jessie Koster of the University of Dallas reached a historic mark this week for the Dallas volleyball program, pulling up 94 digs in four contests to give the libero 742 overall on the season. Senior libero Rachel Fusselman of Austin College totaled 108 digs in six matches for an average of 5.4 digs-per-set. Junior middle blocker Mackenzie Zamarripa of Texas Lutheran University produced four blocks (all block assists) in a three-set home win over Concordia Texas.
