RACHEL FUSSELMAN OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior libero from Trophy Club, Teas has been named SCAC Volleyball Defenseive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 1st through Sunday, September 6th.
Fusselman helped the 'Roos to a perfect 5-0 record to open the 2015 season. In four matches, Fusselman recorded 87 total digs (5.12 d/s) in addition to four service aces. She also added 14 assists for the week.
Last week also saw 'Roos head coach Ed Garza earn his 500th career victory at Austin College.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Andie Alford of Southwestern University helped the Pirates to a perfect 5-0 start by posting a team high 75 digs, averaging 4.41 per set, in five matches. Senior libero Megan Dugie of Texas Lutheran University tallied a career-best 29 digs in a four-match win against McMurry to start the Bulldogs' 4-0 run at the Austin College Invitational. Dugie collected 69 digs for the tournament and also served nine aces. She averaged 4.93 digs per set. Sophomore middle blocker Rebecca Hayes of Trinity University finished the week with a team-best 24 locks (1.04/set), and 35 kills in six matches. Junior libero Jessie Koster of the University of Dallas posted double-digits in digs throughout her four matches including a season-high 27 against Knox College on Saturday. Koster compiled 92 total digs (6.13 d/s) on the week. Freshman outside hitter Hailey Lawson of Centenary College finished the week with 54 total digs and is leading the team in digs per set with 3.18. Senior defensive specialist Sophie Merrifield of Colorado College anchored the Tigers defense with 57 digs over four matches. SHe was named to the all-tournament team after helping CC earn the tournament championship with four wins.
