Jessica Young, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 7)

JESSICA YOUNG OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman midfielder from Spring, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 13th.

Young led the 19th-ranked Trinity women’s soccer team to a pair of shutouts in SCAC action last weekend, as the Tigers remained unbeaten in conference play. Young and the Tiger defense posted the seventh and eight shutouts of the season over the weekend, defeating St. Thomas and previously unbeaten Centenary. Led by Young, Trinity’s defense turned away Centenary’s offensive attack that is averaging 2.5 goals/game and 17.1 shots/game, holding the Ladies to just four total shots.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defender Michelle MacIntyre of Dallas anchored a back line that helped secure the Crusaders’ fifth shutout of the year and third in a row after blanking Austin College, 2-0. MacIntyre also chipped in offensively with an assist on the insurance maker in the second half. Freshman midfielder Karlee Holmes of Southwestern controlled the middle of the field, keying the Pirates’ transition game, to help guide SU to a 4-1 win over Johnson & Wales last Sunday.
