Kristen Canepa, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 5)

KRISTEN CANEPA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from Westlake Village, Calif., has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 29th.

Canepa led Trinity’s women’s soccer team to its fifth shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Southwestern, 6-0, in a non-conference matchup. Canepa and the stifling Tiger defense held Southwestern to just four total shots and zero goals in the game, limiting an offense that was averaging 16 shots/game and 2.1 goals/game prior to Sunday’s game.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender Olivia Urrutia of St. Thomas scored two goals and anchored a defense that allowed just one goal in two matches to help lead the Celts to a 2-0 week. On Friday against Dallas, Urrutia and the rest of her defensive line limited the Crusaders to five shots during the match, only two of which were on goal. Two days later, Urrutia scored two goals (one on a free kick, one off a corner kick) as the Celts defeated Austin College 6-1. Senior defender Bailey Nimtz of Texas Lutheran led TLU’s defensive effort that resulted in a road shutout of Schreiner last Sunday. Nimtz and the Bulldogs held Schreiner to four total shots and to two shots on goal.
