McKenzee Gertz, Colorado College, Player of the Week (Week 7)

MCKENZEE GERTZ OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior forward from Fort Collins, Colo., has been named SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, Monday December 16 through Sunday, December 22. 

Gertz needed just 29 minutes to record her second double-double of the season as the Colorado College women’s basketball team rolled to a 79-56 victory over Texas Lutheran University on Dec. 19. Gertz poured in 23 points, hitting 10 of 16 shots from the floor, to reach the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season. Additionally, she grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to complete her second double-double of the season and the 16th of her career. 
 
Her performance also marked the fourth time this season and the 12th time overall Gertz scored 20 or more points in a game. Gertz became the 22nd player in program history to record 900 or more career points. The Tigers improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Their six-game winning streak is the program’s longest since 1989-90 when CC won nine in a row en route to a berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship. 

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Freshman guard Sarah Gwin of Austin College led the way on the weekend for the ‘Roos, averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 assists and two rebounds per night, including a career-best 19 points in the win over the Celts. Freshman guard Beyonce Perry of Dallas led the Crusaders in scoring twice to begin conference play over the weekend, averaging 20.5 points a game. This included pouring in a personal-best 23 points versus St. Thomas thanks to five three-pointers. Senior post Kasey Hairell of Texas Lutheran averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 1-1 week in the SCAC. Senior center Anna Muller of Trinity came off the bench and earned All-Tournament honors at the Pacific Northwest Tournament after averaging 9.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game in the two wins, playing in just 17 minutes per game.
