McKenzee Gertz, Colorado College, Player of the Week (Week 3)

MCKENZEE GERTZ OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior forward from Fort Collins, Colo., has been named SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, November 18 through Sunday, November 24. 

Gertz averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while leading Colorado College to a pair of victories last week. In Friday’s 88-70 win over Nebraska Wesleyan, Gertz poured in a career-high 29 points to lead the Tigers to their first victory of the season. The winger connected on five of 10 shots from behind the arc and was 11-for-22 from the floor overall. Gertz drained a pair of three-pointers early in the fourth quarter to help CC re-establish control after the Prairie Wolves cut their 28-point deficit to 12. Gertz, who scored 20 or more points for the 10th time in her career, became the 23rd player in program in program history to record 800 or more points. She also climbed into second place on the program’s all-time list with 141 career three-pointers. Gertz also grabbed nine rebounds against the Prairie Wolves. 
 
During Saturday’s 62-53 win over previously unbeaten Denison, Gertz scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Gertz leads the Tigers averaging 19.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Jules Oliveti of Dallas posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the Crusaders first win of the season last Tuesday, defeating Southwestern Adventist. Oliveti followed that performance up with a season-high 18 points in a loss to Sul Ross State. Senior center Cecily Woolfolk of Southwestern averaged 18.5 points on 48.1 percent shooting and 12 rebounds per game, posting her third and fourth double-doubles of the season to lead the Pirates to their first two wins of the year. She also had five blocks, including four against Concordia (TX). Senior guard Sheridan Hopkins of St. Thomas averaged 21.5 points per game and shot 56.7 percent (17-for-30) from the floor in leading the Celts to a 1-1 week. She scored a season-high 37 points on 14-of-23 shooting in the team's win over Arlington Baptist. Senior forward Abby Holland of Trinity turned in her first double-double of the season in the Tigers’ 69-60 road win over East Texas Baptist University on Saturday afternoon. Holland scored 20 points to go with 10 rebounds, hitting 9-of-20 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range. She also picked up six steals and a pair of assists in the win. The game marked her third consecutive 20-point game and was a season-high in both rebounds and steals.
