Hopkins surpassed 1,500 points for her UST career last weekend and continued to score in bunches, averaging 26 points per game on 56.1 percent shooting (21-for-27) during the Celts’ 2-0 weekend trip to Alpine, Texas. She finished two rebounds shy of averaging a double-double. In the Celts’ 83-72 win over host Sul Ross State, Hopkins scored 24 points, secured 13 rebounds, and handed out five assists. She followed that performance with 28 points against Howard Payne. Hopkins, who has made 10 or more field goals in five of the team’s seven games this season, also averaged nine rebounds, three assists and two steals per game to help UST get out to its best start though seven game since the 2013-14 season. 

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Ally Longaker of Austin College led the ‘Roos to three wins last week, helping AC get off to a 5-0 start for the second time since the 2015-16 season. Longaker averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 56% from the field and 83.3% from the free throw line, adding 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks-per-game. Junior forward McKenzee Gertz of Colorado College helped extend the Tiger’s winning streak to four games after averaging 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game last week in wins over Pacific (Ore.) and Macalester. Freshman guard Madi Horne of Dallas led the Crusaders last week in a pair of losses, averaging 17.5 points on 45.2 percent shooting and added 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal per game. Sophomore guard Lauren Fulenwider of Southwestern scored 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting against nationally-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor, hitting 3-for-5 from deep.
