Abby Holland, Trinity University, Player of the Week (Week 11)

ABBY HOLLAND OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Georgetown, Texas, has been named SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, Monday January 20 through Sunday, January 26. 

Holland paced 13th-ranked Trinity to two more SCAC victories at home over the weekend, extending the team’s winning streak to 12 games and remaining unbeaten atop the SCAC standings. Holland averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.5 steals per game over the weekend, hitting 64.5% (20-31) from the field. She started the weekend with 20 points on 8-12 shooting against Texas Lutheran, as well as recording six rebounds and tying her career-high with seven steals. Holland finished things off with a season-high 27-point effort against Southwestern, adding five rebounds, two assists, and three steal. 

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard Natalie McCoy of Austin College came off the bench for a pair if strong games as AC went 2-0 against Dallas last week, averaging a team-high 14.5 points on the heels of 66.7 percent shooting from the field. Freshman forward Jazzmyn Jones of Centenary scored in double-figures in both contests for the Ladies last week, including a career-high 17 in a loss to Johnson & Wales. Junior forward McKenzee Gertz of Colorado College averaged 16.5 points and 12 rebounds per game while leading the Tigers to a split at home last weekend. Gertz exploded for a career-high 19 rebounds in a loss to St. Thomas. Junior forward Vanessa Diaz of Dallas led the Crusaders with 22 total rebounds in a pair of losses to Austin College last week. Sophomore guard Brianna Bailey of Johnson & Wales poured in 27 points to help lead the Wildcats to a 54-50 victory against Centenary last Saturday. Freshman guard Zahra Cross of Schreiner averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 rebounds per game to lead the Mountaineers to a pair of SCAC wins last weekend. Senior center Cecily Woolfolk of Southwestern averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds with 1.5 blocks per game last week. Senior guard Sheridan Hopkins of St. Thomas averaged a team-high 19.5 points over the Celts’ two wins in Colorado last weekend.  Senior guard Dominique Campos of Texas Lutheran averaged 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in a pair of conference losses last week.
