Sophia Hernandez, Austin College, Softball - Pitcher of the Week (Week 2)

SOPHIA HERNANDEZ OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior right handed pitcher Irving, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, February 15th.

Hernandez went 2-0 in the circle over the weekend as the Austin College softball team jumped out to a 4-0 record to start the season.

Hernandez started her season with a complete game victory against Southwestern Assemblies of God, allowing only one run on three hits, striking out six and walking only two in the win.

She followed that up with a complete game shutout against Rust, allowing only two hits and matching a program record with 14 strikeouts while walking one batter.

Hernandez also went 5-for-13 from the plate with a double, triple, and four RBIs to go with three runs scored.

Last season, Hernandez matched the program record with nine victories on the mound, and threw the first perfect game in Kangaroo history. In that game against Rust College, she also set a new program record with 14 strikeouts and finished the year with 68 K's.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Katie Lee of Dallas helped pick up a winning decision Sunday versus Sul Ross State, 5-2. She allowed five hits, three of which occurred in a two-run sixth for the Lobos. Other than that frame, Lee didn't have many blemishes on the afternoon. Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Novander of Southwestern allowed 11 hits, nine runs, all earned, with five strikeouts and six walks in 11 innings of work. Centenary did not nominate anyone. Schreiner, Texas Lutheran, and Trinity did not play.
