  • SCAC announces Spring 2009 Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll

    SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) named a record 1,029 student-athletes to the 2009 SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday. This year's total eclipsed last year's previous record of 948 student-athletes.

    SUWANEE, Ga. – In exclusive 2009 all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) voting by the league’s head coaches, Rachel Gill of DePauw University was selected the conference’s Offensive Player-of-the-Year for the second time in three years and Megan Soultz of DePauw University was tabbed as Pitcher-of-the-Year for the second straight year. In that same balloting, Southwestern University head coach Angela Froboese was voted SCAC Coach-of-the-Year in her first year as head coach of the Pirates.

    Greencastle, Ind. — For the second time in two days, an Ohio Northern grand slam decided the final outcome between the Polar Bears and DePauw and this time it was Jackie Mangola who provided the blast that gave Ohio Northern a 4-1 win over the Tigers in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship first-round title game.

    Greencastle, Ind. — Megan Soultz allowed just a sixth inning single to Lisa Wiesman and led second-seed and 15th-ranked DePauw to a 2-0 win over sixth-seed Thomas More in a winner's bracket game in the first round of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

    STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) placed 19 student-athletes on the 2009 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Region teams. Rhodes College placed a league-high six players on the All-Region teams followed closely by DePauw University which placed five on the All-Region teams.

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - DePauw University (28-7), Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions, will represent the SCAC in the 2009 NCAA Division III Softball Championship field of 59 teams. The Tigers, who also were chosen as a regional host, will open up the NCAA tournament at home against North Coast Athletic Conference champion Hiram College (26-14).

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Led by all-America pitcher Megan Soultz, 19th-ranked DePauw University earned the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship after defeating Rhodes College, 8-0, in the conference championship game. It was the second straight SCAC softball title for the DU Tigers.

    SUWANEE, Ga. - The 2008-09 SCAC President's Trophy came down to the last events of the day on Sunday. With only men's and women's golf to be decided, DePauw University turned a 10-point deficit to Trinity University to a 10-point victory and the Tigers from Indiana clinched their fourth consecutive SCAC President's Trophy.

    SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - Hendrix and DePauw advanced to the winners bracket semi-final round in the 2009 SCAC Softball Championships hosted by Trinity University. Hendrix defeated Rhodes 7-2 in the first game of the tournament before defeating Southwestern 4-3 in the second round. DePauw advanced after defeating Trinity 3-1 in the nightcap of day one.

DePauw University, the number seed from the Eastern division and Southwestern University, the number one seed from the Western division will both receive first round byes in the double elimination tournament.

DePauw clinched the number one seed out of the Eastern Division after sweeping Rhodes in a four game series over the weekend. The DU Tigers have now won 29 straight regular season SCAC games.

Rhodes junior Rebekah Moore clipped the SCAC career home run mark of 20 belting her 21st of her career.
