BRENT MANDELKORN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year defender from Frisco, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 6th through Sunday, October 12th.
Mandelkorn nailed the only goal of the
game as #3 Trinity defeated #14 Colorado College in the weekend
finale on Sunday afternoon. Mandelkorn notched the
goal in the second minute of action, as Trinity beat Colorado 1-0
for the second time in a week to take control atop of the SCAC
standings.
For the season, Mandelkorn is tied for second on
the team with five goals scored, but now leads all Tiger players
with three game-winning goals.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year
midfielder Garrett Matacale of Austin College scored
once and had an assist on another goal over the weekend as the
'Roos took on Texas Lutheran and Schreiner. Matacale's goal came on
a penalty kick against Schreiner, the same game in which he had an
assist. Senior forward
Brandon Ogilvie of Colorado College recorded a goal and
an assist during Friday’s 2-0 win over Southwestern.
Ogilvie’s tally in the 15th minute proved to be his fourth
game winner of the season and the 13th of his career. Ogilvie
became the 15th Tiger to record 30 or more career goals, tying Jim
Grice (1982-85) for 14th place on the program's all-time list. The
senior forward also became CC's 20th player to record 70 or more
career points and is tied with Eddie Dietz (1976-79) and Tyler Free
(1997-00) for 18th place. Junior forward Colton Allen of
Dallas tallied a game-winning goal and amassed a
team-high six shots in two Crusaders' wins this weekend at
Schreiner and Texas Lutheran. His netter was his sixth on the
campaign, a team-best. In Sunday's victory at TLU, the junior
forward tied a team-high, three shot attempts placing on on goal.
He hit a .500 (3-for-6) SOG%. Sophomore defender Nick
Petterson of Southwestern scored his first
career goal late in the second half to earn a point on the road at
Centenary as the Pirates had to settle for the 2-2 draw. Centenary, Schreiner and Texas Lutheran did not
nominate anyone for the award.
