DENTON MARTIN
OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a junior right handed
pitcher from Denton, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball
Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, February
8th.
Martin led the Dallas Crusaders to an
opening day with over the Sul Ross State Lobos two weekends ago in
Irving, Texas.
Martin gave Dallas a phenomenal
performance in a complete, seven-inning shutout over Sul Ross State
on opening day. He hurled a two-hitter and only allowed one walk.
Martin stymed the Lobos' offense by fanning 10 batters, a career
high.
Martin's Crusaders went 1-1 on opening
weekend with Sunday's game being called due to weather.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore
pitcher Hayden Ray of Schreiner pitched 7.0 innings in
a 3-1 win over Sul Ross State. Ray allowed just one run on six
hits, three Ks, and a walk. Senior pitcher Aaron Aleman of Texas
Lutheran got the year off on the right foot with a
six-inning performance against Whittier, striking out a
career-high 10 batters in the game, allowing just two hits in the
six innings and one run. Senior pitcher Nick Griffith of
Trinity helped the 16th-ranked Tiger baseball team
finish off a 3-0 week of action by earning the win against Whittier
College on Saturday night. Griffith gave up one run on three hits
over 5.0 innings of work, striking out six without issuing a walk.
Centenary did
not nominate anyone. Austin College and Southwestern did
not play.
