BROOKE SANCHEZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSITYa senior on the Tigers' softball team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending May 4, 2014.

The SCAC honors student-athletes who excel on the field, in the classroom, and contribute to the community.

Sanchez fits the bill in all of the categories. This season, Sanchez played and started in only eight games because of an injury, but the senior was batting .455, going 10-22 at the plate, before going down with the season-ending injury.

In 2013, Sanchez was elected the SCAC Softball Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, and was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. She was recognized as an All-SCAC Honorable Mention recipient in 2011 and 2012.

Academically, Sanchez is a communication and media studies major, with a minor in sport management. She has earned a position on Trinity’s Dean’s List three times (fall 2011, fall 2012, and spring 2013). Last month, Sanchez received Trinity’s Presidential Award of Excellence, and was named the Outstanding Senior in Sport Management.

Sanchez has volunteered in numerous community activities. Among the programs are the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, San Antonio Sports All Can Ski, the 2013 IBSA World Youth Championships and the Pan American Games, and the San Antonio Sports Charity Golf Classic. Sanchez also was team manager for Lone Star Play Ball, a special needs adult softball league.

She served as a communications intern with San Antonio Sports, and was an Economic Impact Analysis Data Collection Team member with the Valero Alamo Bowl, and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Sanchez was also a participant in the U.S. Olympic Committee’s F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere).
