JESI WILCOX OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior on the women's volleyball team from Mobile, Ala., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending November 25, 2012.

From the day Wilcox stepped onto the campus at Centenary, she has shown her character on and off the court.

As the only senior student-athlete, her maturity was revealed on numerous occasions during the ups and downs of the most recent volleyball season. The fact that she stayed diligent in her leadership duties is a true testament of her character. Wilcox was able to be a leader in the face of mounting frustration and set an exemplary example for her younger teammates. On the court, she became just the third player in Centenary history to crack the 500 dig plateau - notching 501 in her senior season. That total ranks third all time in the Centenary record books and her 4.86 digs per set mark ranked third in the SCAC this season.

Off the court, Wilcox is also a role model in the community. As a steadfast advocate for the proper treatment of animals, she is a constant presence in the Caddo Parrish Humane Society caring for the animals in their facility. During her limited free time, she has volunteered for the Martin Luther King, Jr. service days and is active with “Up til dawn” to help the St. Jude’s Research Hospital. A Communications major, Wilcox has gained  experience in her future field by volunteering with the Addy Awards and with the American Advertising Federation Convention.

Lastly, in a more recent development, Wilcox has offered her assistance to the Centenary Athletic Department to help fill the void left with the recent departing of the school's Sports Information Coordinator. She is currently assisting with athletic department releases as well as the day-to-day handling of statistics and website management.
