John Boxberger, Trinity University, Men's Basketball

JOHN BOXBERGER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Austin, Texas, on the newly-crowned SCAC Champion men’s basketball team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending February 26, 2012.

Boxberger missed much of the early part of the season due to injury, but returned to play in 12 games during the year, averaging 2.9 points per game, and shooting 37.8% from the field.

Boxberger is majoring in Economics, with a minor in Biology at Trinity, and was a member of the SCAC Honor Roll last spring. He is the men's basketball representative on Trinity's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, and assisted in Trinity's "Black Out Breast Cancer" event that raised over $20,000 this past fall. Boxberger is also a member of Trinity's Phi Sigma Chi fraternity, currently serving as the Alumni Chair, and was recently the Risk Management Chair for all fraternity operations. With Phi Sigman Chi, Boxberger has helped organize and operate "Jackson-Keller Field Day" at Trinity, which brings local elementary students to Trinity for a day of activity. He also participated in Sigma GIVE, the philanthropy project for Trinity's Sigma Theta Tau sorority.

Active in both the Chemistry and Biology Clubs already, Boxberger will join the Economics Honor Society as soon he is eligible at the end of this semester.

Boxberger has worked as in intern for an Austin-based orthopedic surgeon, and this past summer, he was a volunteer and surgical shadow at both the Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, and at Mid-America Orthopedics.
