JOSH SAUNDERS
OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior
forward from Athens, Texas, on the men's basketball
team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending January 1,
2012.
Saunders, who will graduate in May with degrees in
both Business and Environmental Studies, is a starting forward
and team captain for the ‘Roos men's basketball team. He
was named to the SCAC all-Academic honor roll from 2008-2011 as
well as to Who's Who Among American Universities Colleges
All-American, and is a three year National
Association Basketball Honors Court selection. He also serves on
the Austin College Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and has
since 2009.
Saunders served on The Austin College Global
Outreach Fellowship program to Costa Rica and Built Homes for under
privileged families for 4 weeks this past summer.
As a volunteer, Saunders serves to the homeless at
The Stewpot and Second Chance Café in Dallas and
participated in the Austin College Great Day of Service Activities
at The Montessori School of Sherman, TX.
He has also volunteered with the Salvation Army in Athens on
Christmas Day to pass out clothes and feed to under privilege
families. In addition, Saunders has worked with
children ages 6-18 as a camp counselor/coach during the summer
months at the Dallas Mavericks Hoop Camp.
