EMILY SHIRAKI
OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore jumper on
the women's track and field team, has been selected the SCAC
Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for
the week ending March 20, 2011.
Shiraki, whose primary event is the pole vault and
owns the second-highest jump in school history, won the event as a
freshman at the 2010 SCAC Championships.
Equally talented off the track, Shiraki's
community service is very broad. Her volunteer efforts include
helping in the Planned Service Excursion where she participaed in
the Each One Teach One (tutoring for adult literacy). She has
also volunteered at the Kid's Rock portion of the San
Antonio Rock n' Roll Marathon. From this past August to December,
Shiraki tutored for a total of 21 hours at Each
One Teach One on the weekends, and this past July, she walked in
the Relay for Life.
Shiraki also served as a volunteer at
the 2010 SCAC Cross Country Championships, laying
down mats, and helping with setup and tear down. She assisted
in a similar manner at the 2010 NCAA D3 Soccer Championships that
Trinity hosted this past fall.
