SCOTT
STRALEY OF AUSTIN
COLLEGE, a junior forward on the
men's basketball team from The Colony, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Character & Community Male
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending February 6,
2011.
As a volunteer, Straley serves to the
homeless at The Stewpot and Second Chance Café in Dallas. He
has also been going to the homeless shelter and playing with
the kids and interacting with them. Earlier in the year,
Straley helped arrange to have some of those
children brought to campus so that they could see an Austin College
game.
Every summer, Straley works about eight
basketball camps - one of those camps being for children who can't
afford to go to camp.
Once out of school, with about two weeks remaining in the high
school academic year, Straley goes back home and
helps his elementary school by interacting with the kids in varied
activities, such as reading to them, helping with
homework, and talking about college.
