JOHN GILMER OF SEWANEE-UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, a junior from Mobile, Ala., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending September 12, 2010.

Gilmer, who turned in a team-best finish of 27:35.45 two Saturdays ago at the Sewanee Cross Country Invitational, is the Tiger's top runner this season and has been in the top three both of his first two years.

Away from the cross country trails, Gilmer is co-chair of the Sewanee chapter of Falling Whistles, a national campaign for peace in the Congo. He has earned a 3.886 cumulative GPA in his time at Sewanee and is involved in several community service activities through his fraternity. 

Gilmer is also involved in Sewanee's University Chapel and participates in several activities including Growing in Grace and Catechumenate.
