NEW ORLEANS, La. - After leading her Tigers to the South/Southeast Regional title this past Saturday, Trinity University's Emily Daum was named NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Region Coach-of-the-Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Tiger women captured the regional championship with a score of 80 points, beating runner-up Emory (Ga.) University by a mere three points in the 6K event. Thirty-four teams competed in the meet, which was hosted by Christopher Newport University.

The regional title is the first for the Trinity program since the women won in 2013 and it also marks the fifth women's championship in program history.

With the win, Trinity's women qualify for next week's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Elsah, Illinois. The last time the Tigers qualified for nationals as a team was in 2013, also on the Newport News course.

Trinity's women have now placed a team or individual at the NCAA Championships for 10 of the past 11 seasons.

Two weeks earlier, Daum led Trinity to a sweep of both the SCAC men's and women's cross country team titles. It was the second men's title for Trinity in the last three years and the fourth overall. The championship on the women's side represents the first for the program since 2013 and third overall.

Trinity's 21 points in the women's race was the fifth-lowest score in conference history, while the men's score of 24 points was the sixth-best in SCAC history.

For her team's success at the conference meet, Daum was honored as SCAC Men's and Women's Cross Country COTY.
