Trinity takes early lead after Day One of SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Trinity University sophomore Kevin Martin won the men's 1-meter SCAC to lead the Tigers to an early lead after the inaugural session of the 2010 SCAC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Official Championship Website

The swimming portion of the championships gets underway with prelims on Thursday morning.

Competition continues through Saturday evening at the Ralph R. Wright Natatorium on the campus of the University of Louisville.

Martin won the competition with an 11 dive total of 448.35. At the 2009 SCAC Championships in Nashville, Tenn., Martin placed third.

Centre College senior Hunter Hayes, the 2009 SCAC men's 1-meter champion, finished in second with a total of 422.90. Rounding out the top five was DePauw University senior Adam Whishart (third - 372.80), teammate Patrick Springer (fourth - 357.10) and Colorado College sophomore Joseph Shaner (fifth - 331.15).

Rhodes College's highest finisher was first-year diver Ryan Berger. Berger tallied a top-10 score of 328.40 to finish in seventh place.

Sewanee: University of the South's highest finisher was senior Cole Larsen. He also posted a top-10 score of 286.60 and finished in 10th place.
