Trinity's Caitlin Masse highlights banner day for SCAC teams at regional championships

SUWANEE, Ga. - Trinity University junior Caitlin Masse posted a 22:56 6K to finish in first-place in the NCAA Division III South Regional championship meet and automatically qualified for next week's national championship meet.

Rhodes College turned in quite an impressive team finish as the Lynx placed four runners in the top eight to win the team event and qualify for next week's national meet. Rhodes easily outdistanced themselves from second-place Emory University, as the Lynx won by 65 points.

Rhodes' Cybil Covic (23:35) finished second to lead the Lynx followed by Taylor Stephens (23:53, third), Melissa DeFabrizio (24:01, fourth), Kelsey Dudziak (24:04, eighth) and Anna Johnson (24:41, 18th).

Hendrix College finished sixth overall, led by sophomore Lolly Plummer. Plummer turned in a 24:20 for an 11th-place individual finish and will qualify for the national meet as an individual.

Centre College's Lauren McCafferty earned a top-20 finish by running 24:38 to finish 18th overall. McCafferty and the rest of her Colonel teammates finished eithth overall as a team.

Trinity finished 12th overall followed by Sewanee: University of the South (15th), Southwestern University (21st) and Oglethorpe University (27th).

In the Great Lakes Region, DePauw University's Lauren Reich turned in a solid second-place individual performance. Reich, the 2009 SCAC Women's Runner of the Year, ran a 21:28 and was just five seconds behind the winning time. Reich and her Tiger teammates finished in fourth-place in the team standings and earned an at-large bid to the national championship next week. Reich qualified regardless as an individual.

Colorado College finished in 14th place in the West Region. Leading the way for the Tigers was Maggie Harkins who finished 56th by running a 24:33.
