Lizzy Counts, Colorado College, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 7)

LIZZY COUNTS OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a freshman setter from Oakland, Calif., has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 10th through Sunday, October 16th. 

Counts helped lead CC to a 4-0 record, including victories over No. 12 Eastern University, No. 23 Millikin University, and the tournament championship of the Pikes Peak Challenge.

Counts was named the tournament MVP, leading the Tigers with 169 assists, a .396 hitting percentage, and 22 kills on 48 attempts with just 3 errors.

Counts began the week with a career-high 49 assists and 4 blocks in a 3-1 win over Luther College. Counts also added 6 kills on a .429 attack percentage in 14 attempts without an error, and had 10 digs for her 11th double-double of the season.

Counts then led the Tigers with 44 assists, 8 digs, and f kills in a 3-2 victory over No. 12 Eastern. She began the second day of the tournament with a team-best 39 assists and a .500 hitting percentage, with 6 kills in 12 attempts in the 3-2 win over No. 23 Millikin.

Counts also picked up 11 digs for her 12th double-double of the season against Millikin. Counts finished the week with 37 assists to lead the Tiger offense to a 3-0 sweep of Concordia College.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outside hitter Kristin Fording of Texas Lutheran University went over the 1,000-kill mark for her career in a three-set win over Oglethorpe on Friday. Fording added 16 kills and a .295 hitting percentage in a Saturday loss to No. 25 Hendrix. She scored a total of 19 points and had 14 digs with 3 blocks in the second Hendrix match. Senior outside hitter Madison Lee of Austin College had an outstanding weekend as Austin College went 2-1, averaging 3.18 kills per set as well as 1.36 digs per set. With 35 kills on the week, Lee surpassed 1,000 career kills, becoming just the eighth Austin College player in history to reach that mark. Junior right-side hitter Kate Mitchell of Southwestern University helped the Pirates beat two ranked teams on the road and went 3-0 for the week. Mitchell had 45 kills, 3 aces, and 7 blocks while averaging 3.46 kills per set, and nearly one dig per set. Junior outside hitter Mary Scholz of the University of Dallas led all Crusaders offensively this week with 27 kills and 2.70 kills-per-set in three matches of non-conference play. Scholz's best performance came at home versus Arlington Baptist College, where she tied her second season-best 15 kills and averaged 3.75 a set.
