Kirby Smith, Trinity University, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 6)

KIRBY SMITH OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior outside hitter from Pilot Point, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 3rd through Sunday, October 9th. It is the third consecutive week that Smith has earned SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors. 

Smith led the Tiger volleyball team into a tie for the top spot in the SCAC standings after a 3-0 weekend at the SCAC Divisional Tournament, including a 3-2 upset of third-ranked Southwestern. 

Smith led Trinity in kills in each of the three matches, averaging 4.00 kills/set, and hitting an impressive .349 for the weekend. She had a pair of double-doubles in the tournament, boosting her season total to nine. In addition, she finished two of the three matches without committing a hitting error, including a .593 performance against TLU.

Smith averaged 3.91 digs/set for the weekend, finishing second on the team in that category. Against #3 Southwestern, she had her best match of the season, leading the Tigers with 21 kills and 24 digs - both of which are season-best totals.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year setter Lizzy Counts of Colorado College helped lead the Tigers to a 3-0 record during conference play and 3-1 record overall. Counts led the team with 135 assists and also had 31 digs and 15 kills while hitting a .364 attack percentage on the week with just three errors in 33 attempts. The freshman averaged 33.75 assists, 7.75 digs and 3.75 kills a match during the week. She had a career-high 38 assists to lead the team while hitting .667 without an error in six attempts in a 3-0 win over Dallas. She had a team-high 35 assists with 13 digs to earn her 10th double-double of the season in a 3-0 victory over Austin, and finished the week tying her career-high 38 assists to lead the team in a 3-0 win against Centenary. Senior outside hitter Mairin Guilfoyle of the University of Dallas paced the Crusaders offensively with team-highs in all three matches, as the team went 2-1 at their hosted divisional. Guilfoyle knocked 15 kills en route to a set sweep over Centenary College on Saturday. In the weekend finale, the senior outside hitter broke 20 kills for the second time this season and in her career with 25. It was her personal best that pushed UD ahead in a nail-biter victory against Austin College. The season's team leader in kills also had a double-double with 10 digs. Guilfoyle accumulated 25.0 pts in that individual contest, while logging 56.0 on the weekend. She had 51 kills overall and averaged 4.64 kills per set during the trio of games. First-year setter Jaci Chambers of Texas Lutheran University distributed a career-high 44 assists in a four-set win Saturday over Schreiner. She added 17 assists and 15 digs in a four-set loss to No. 3 Southwestern and 19 assists and eight digs in a three-set loss to Trinity. Sophomore setter Katie Ingle of Austin College had a big week for the 'Roos, averaging 12.29 assists per set in four matches, including 12.45 in three SCAC matches. Ingle totaled 172 assists and added 37 digs, with an average of 2.64 digs per set. She also had three total blocks, seven kills, and two service aces.
