ANDIE ALFORD OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior libero, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 17th through Sunday, October 23rd.
Alford helped the Pirates to a 4-1 week, posting wins against Mary Hardin-Baylor, Dallas, Centenary, and Austin College.
Alford averaged nearly 6 digs/set with almost 100 digs in the 5 matches.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year libero Anna Gurolnick of Colorado College led CC defensively with 72 digs, averaging 18 digs a match. Sophomore outside hitter Hailey Lawson of Centenary College tallied 3.25 digs/set in seven matches this week, while adding 51 kills and 21 aces. Junior libero Madi McVay of Austin College had another strong week, totaling 66 digs, including 49 in conference play, with an average of 4.4 digs per set. Sophomore Sarah Mullens of Trinity University led the Tigers to a 5-1 overall record last week, including a 4-0 sweep at the SCAC Cross-Divisional that led to the Tigers clinching the regular season conference title, while tallying 88 digs and 12 service aces to lead the Tigers. Junior libero Mathis Popelsky of Texas Lutheran University averaged 5.75 digs per set as the Bulldogs went 2-2 on the last weekend of SCAC play.
