Rebekah Bowden, Austin College, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 5)

REBEKAH BOWDEN OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior middle blocker from Flint, Tx., has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 26th through Sunday, October 2nd. 

Bowden had a dominant week at the net as Austin College went 2-0, averaging 2.43 blocks per set against Arlington Baptist and Concordia-Texas.

Bowden had 10 total blocks in the three set win over Concordia, and also averaged 3.86 kills per set with a .458 hitting percentage for the week. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior libero Jessie Koster of the University of Dallas combined for 62 digs, including a personal best 48 (12.00 d/s), in two non-conference matches last week for the University of Dallas. Koster's career performance ranked 5th all-time in the SCAC for a single game. Sophomore Sarah Mullens of Trinity University led Trinity's volleyball team to a 2-2 record at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational last weekend, including a win over 18th-ranked Elmhurst on the first day of action. Mullens had 20+ digs in three of the four matches in the tournament, totaling 78 digs in 18 sets (4.33/set). Junior middle hitter Glenna Yancey of Colorado College led the Tigers with an average of 2 blocks a set to help the Tigers hold Johnson & Wales to a .045 attack percentage in a 3 set victory.
