MARGUERITE SPAETHLING OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a freshman middle hitter from Larkspur, Cali., has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 12th through Sunday, September 18th.
Spaethling helped lead Colorado College to a 3-0 record over the weekend, while never dropping a set, improving to 11-0 this season. Spaethling led the team with 21 blocks and 21 kills while hitting a .429 attack percentage in nine sets played.
Spaethling led the Tigers at the net averaging 7 blocks and 7 kills a match while also helping Colorado College hold its opponents to a combined -.028 hitting percentage during the weekend.
Spaethling began the week leading the team with 8 blocks and had 8 kills and 2 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Austin College.
Spaethling earned a team-best 8 blocks and 5 kills during a 3-0 victory of Centenary and then finished the week with a team-high 5 blocks and 8 kills in 3-0 win over Dallas.

Senior libero Andie Alford of Southwestern University led Southwestern with 59 digs on the week, averaging nearly 5 per set in conference play. Senior libero Jessie Koster of the University of Dallas led the defense with 100 digs over three matches in the SCAC-opening weekend at Colorado College while averaging 7.69 digs-per-set and shattered a single-game career best 46 digs against Centenary. Senior libero Madi McVay of Austin College hit double digits in digs all four matches with a high of 25 digs in a victory over Dallas while averaging 4.79 digs per set with 3 service aces for the week. Junior libero Mathis Popelsky of Texas Lutheran University averaged 5.70 digs per set in a 1-2 week while recording 23 digs against Trinity and 19 digs in the three-set win over Schreiner. Junior outside hitter Kirby Smith of Trinity University averaged 3.09 digs/set (34 total) and recorded 4 blocks over the weekend for the Tigers. Smith had double-doubles against both Southwestern and Schreiner, scoring 11 kills in both matches.
