Kyra Montes, Centenary College, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 2)

KYRA MONTES OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior forward from Shreveport, La., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Tuesday, September 4th to Sunday, September 9th.

Montes had quite the weekend to help Centenary sit atop the conference standings and a perfect 3-0 mark last week. She became the fourth player in the Ladies NCAA Division III era history to record a hat trick, scoring all three goals as Centenary erased a 2-0, second half deficit to knock off Schreiner in overtime last Sunday. On Friday, she scored a goal and added two assists to lift the Ladies over Texas Lutheran, 4-3, in overtime. The win was the first for Centenary against TLU in SCAC history.

In non-conference action, Montes scored the opening goal of the game in the shutout win against Millsaps last Wednesday. On the week, Montes scored five goals and added two assists for a total of 12 points.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior midfielder Elisa Duran of Dallas, netted a hat trick and added an assist for seven total points in the Crusaders first victory in 2018 over non-conference for Howard Payne. It marked the first UD women’s soccer player to net a hat trick since 2016. Duran also added an assist in the loss to Johnson and Wales. Junior forward Natasha Martin of Johnson & Wales had two goals and an assist last weekend, including the game-winner against Austin College to lead JWU to a 2-0 start in SCAC play.
