ALENA STERN OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore goalie from King’s Mountain, Calif., has been named the SCAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 4th through Sunday, March 10th.
Stern stopped 21 of 38 shots on goal for a .552 saves percentage while leading No. 24 Colorado College to pair of West Region road victories in Southern California last week. Stern stopped a season-high 13 shots to lead CC to a 12-10 victory at No. 25 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday afternoon. Stern made a pair saves on free position shots late in the second half, the last of which occurred with 1:47 to play when she denied Allie Hill’s effort that could have cut into CC’s 12-9 lead. Stern reached double figures midway through the second half when she stopped Maddie Geary’s free-position shot, giving the sophomore goalkeeper her first double-digit performance of the season and the eighth of her career.
During in Friday’s 17-7 win at Chapman, Stern made eight saves. The Tigers improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 on the road, and now have the inside track to the top spot in the West Region rankings.
